“The Overlooked Legacy
of
Ted Williams”

by Edward S. Leonard

The recently released non-fiction book entitled “The Overlooked Legacy of Ted Williams”, details Ted’s commitment of giving of his resources and time after retirement from the Red Sox. With three local partners Ted founded and operated the “Ted Williams Boys Baseball Camp” which was in operation from 1957 until 1986. During this time 10,000 young boys attended the camp. Ted was commiteed that the campers would become disciplined men of good character, while having fun.

The book is also about Ted's continuing support of the Jimmy Fund charity. His support continues today with the reunion of Camp alumni raising funds for the Jimmy Fund.

New campers received a pamphlet written by Ted that they used during the morning training sessions of the day conducted by Ted and camp counselors. In the afternoon teams were formed and played baseball on one of the four baseball diamonds in the camp. On special days the best camp team traveled to local communities to play against local teams.

The book dispells any negative thoughts you may have had previously of an exceptional, though controversial, man. It is a true story of Ted the person.

The author, Edward S. Leonard, growing up and living in Massachusetts of course was a Boston Red Sox fan. Ed had lived in Lakeville for many years before he learned about the Ted Williams Baseball Camp that was located there in the past. His penchant for history motivated him to research the details of the founding and operation of the camp.

This book can be purchased on the Amazon website in hardcover, paperback,
     or Kindle format.
Ed would welcome an email to inform him of your comments about the book.
